Genesis 37:1-36
About Joseph
Joseph’s father is Jacob and his mother is Rachel. When he was 17 years old he was herding sheep with his brothers. Joseph’s father Jacob loved his children more than anyone else. When his brothers saw this they were jealous of him and refused to greet him. I had a dream and said Listen to this.

Behold we were gathering sheaves in the midst of the field and behold my biscuit arose and stood upright and your baskets were round about him and they bowed down to my baskets. They hated him even more for his dreams and for his words saying Will you be king over us.

And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more: and, behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars made obeisance to me.And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed?

Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth? said. And his brethren envied him; and his father kept the saying in mind. Joseph was hated by his brothers and sold. One day his brothers went to pasture the flock of Shechem.

lsrael called Joseph and said as you know your brothers went to shepherd the sheep of Shechem please go and see if the sheep are safe and tell me. Joseph went and saw a man and asked him where he was going. He said I heard them say they’re going to go here and we’re going to doota I went and found them there.

His brothers saw him in the distance and discussed that they should kill him and throw him into this pit and say that he was eaten by a wild animal. Reuben heard this and said no, don’t kill him and don’t shed blood, throw him out of this pit. I saw a beautiful cloth on it and took it off and threw it into the bowl.

As they sat down to eat, they looked up and saw the Ishmaelite traders going to Egypt.Judah, Joseph’s brother, said, “Come, let us kill him, what shall we do with him? We will not kill our brother, but sell our flesh to these peaceful warriors. lt was taken to Egypt.

The brothers took Joseph’s coat, slaughtered a goat, put it in the blood, and took it to their father. Jacob, Joseph’s father, looked at the collar and recognized that it was indeed my son Joseph’s collar. And the country sold Joseph into Egypt unto Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh’s, and captain of the guard.

Genesis 39:1-23
Joseph was successful because God was with him and Potiphar knew this and he entrusted him with all his possessions and made him, keep them. God blessed the man’s house because of Joseph and all his possessions were in the hand of God. Joseph was handsome and party tolerant and nitin saw this man and told him to sleep with me.

Joseph refused and said my master has entrusted me with all his property and he knows nothing of his property and there is no one in the house who is greater than me because you are his wife and there is nothing he has not given me right?” he asked. she refused to even be with him, even though she was screaming every day.

One day he went upstairs for work and there was nothing in the house and the other servants said to the man Joseph grab his clothes and come to me to play with me and I screamed for help and he threw his clothes at me and ran away. The man became angry and threw Joseph into prison.

When Joseph was in prison, God was with him and he showed his kindness to the warden and the warden appointed him over Joseph and the people in prison and he acted faithfully. Because God was with Joseph, everything he did was successful and the man.

Genesis 38:1-39
And Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adulla mite, whose name was Hirah He found a “shua”; and he took the damsel, and went in unto her.   And she conceived, and bare a son; and she called his name Er. And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Onan.

And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Shelah. and she bare him at Kizbi.  And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar. And Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; so God caused him to die. Then Judah said to Onan, “Go in to your brother’s wife and perform the duty of a husband’s brother to her, and raise up offspring for your brother.” said.

And it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother; for he knew that the seed should not be his And the thing which he did was evil in the sight of the LORD; so God caused him to die too.

Then said Tamar unto his father’s wife, Remain a widow at thy father’s house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest peradventure my son die also, as his brethren did. said; So Tamar went and dwelt in her father’s house.

And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah’s wife died; And Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite. And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold thy father in law goeth up to Timnath to shear his sheep.

And when she saw that she was not given unto him, she put off her widow’s garments, and covered herself with a vail, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnath; He did not recognize her, for she was a harlot, because she had covered her face. For he did not know that she was his daughter-in-law !” he said. said; and she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me? she said, smirking.

And he said, I will send thee a kid from the flock. And she said, Thou shalt give me a pledge, until thou send it. she said. And he said, What shall I give thee for a pledge? said; And she answered, Give me thy signet ring, and thy staff that is in thy hand. she said; and he gave it to her, and came to her; and she conceived by him.

And she arose, and went away, and laid by her vail from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood. And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman’s hand: but he found her not. but he could not see her.

And he said, Where is the harlot, that was openly by the way side? he asked the people of the place; and they said, No, there were no harlots here. they said. And he returned to Judah, and said, I cannot find the woman; and the men of the place said to me, ‘There were no prostitutes here.’”

And Judah said, I sent the kid to her, and thou hast not found her: but let no man laugh at us: let her take that which she hath. said. And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt. said.

And it came to pass, when she was brought forth, that she sent unto her father, saying, I am with child of this man that hath the ring, and this is the staff that is upon his head. and she said, Now see whose it is, and see whose it is. she said to him.

And Judah acknowledged them, and said, I have sinned against her: for I gave her not to Shelah my son. he hasn’t been to her since. And it came to pass, when the time was come that she should be delivered, that behold, there were twins in her womb: and while she travailed, the one put out his hand; and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying,

This shall be the first to reach the ground. And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came down before him; the midwife said, “What a force you cut the way!” she said; therefore his name was Perez.

Genesis 40:1-23

One day Pharaoh’s cupbearer and baker upset the king and he got angry and threw them into Joseph’s prison and the captain of the prison gave them to Joseph and he began to serve them. His long stay there and they dreamed dreams all at once overnight and their dreams made sense.

The next morning Joseph came to them and saw that they were bowed down and he said what are you doing your faces are so dark and they said we have dreams and no one can interpret them for us. Joseph said the interpretation is God and he said please tell me.

The cupbearer said to Pharaoh, “Behold, there is a vine in front of me, and it has three branches, and it blossomed and its fruit was ripe. Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand. Joseph interpreted it and said the Three Branches in three days Pharaoh will lift your head in 3 days and restore you to your position.

But when it pleases you, remember me and do me a favor and tell Pharaoh to get me out of prison. And the baker said unto Joseph, Behold, I have seen three loaves of bread in my head: and from the top of them were all kinds of bread, which Pharaoh bake: and the birds came and ate them up.

Joseph interpreted it and the three stakes on the 3rd day Pharaoh said in three days he will lift up your head and hang you on a tree and the birds will eat your flesh. The 3rd day was Pharaoh’s birthday and he had a feast for his officials and told him about the cupbearer and put the cupbearer back to work and hung his bread on the tree like Joseph said. However, the man in charge did not forget Joseph’s drink but did not remember it.

Pharaoh’s Dream
Genesis 41:1-57

Pharaoh fell asleep and dreamed that behold, I stood by the river Abay and seven Cows beautiful cows grazing in the river and also seven un beautiful standing on the river. I said I saw when the un beautiful cows swallowed the beautiful cows.

He slept again and saw seven heads of good ears of grain sprouting and also seven heads of thin ears of grain, swept away by a storm to the east and burned up. I said I saw a time when the snowflakes swallowed the good heads of grain.
Say Pharaoh got up early in the morning and the thing refused to go in and he was upset.

Pharaoh summoned the magicians and wise men of Egypt and told them the dreams but there was no one to interpret them. The cupbearer told Pharaoh when your servants offended you and the baker and I were thrown into prison and a man was there with us and we both had a dream once in one night and he told us that I was asked to return to my place and the bread was hung and he said to him, ‘It is so.

Pharaoh immediately summoned Joseph from the dungeon. He told him his dream and he said I cannot interpret it but God will give Pharaoh a good answer. Joseph said to Pharaoh that your dreams are both the same. The beautiful cow and the head of grain are the same and he will do it in Egypt for seven years.

The seven snowflakes are for seven years The grain itself was burned by the storm in the east for seven years. After the seven years of famine in Egypt, the land would be stricken for seven years. And this Joseph said, Be it as I said unto Pharaoh, for God hath shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do.

Therefore, Pharaoh was told to appoint a wise and intelligent man over Egypt and in the year of famine Pharaoh would have one fifth of the grain to be kept in the middle of the city under his kingdom for the coming famine. And the words of Joseph pleased Pharaoh well, and his servants: and Pharaoh said, Shall we find a man like this, who is in the spirit of heaven?

Pharaoh told Joseph that God had shown you all this.
👉No one understands and knows like you.
👉You will be in charge of my palace.
👉All my people are subject to your command and are superior to you only in the glory of the throne.
👉I have welcomed you from all over Egypt.
He took the ring out of his hand and put it on his finger, and put a necklace on his neck and a robe on him.
👉And he put him in his second chariot, and the people went before him, bowing and shouting.
👉He married Potiphar’s daughter.

Joseph was 30 years old when he started working.
👉He went before Pharaoh and traveled throughout the land of Egypt. and he laid up in abundance in the city for the famine;
👉Joseph said, “God has made me forget all my trouble and all my fathers house.”
👉“God has multiplied me in the land of my affliction”
👉And all countries came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph, because the famine was severe in all the earth.

Genesis 42:1-38
This time we hear that Jacob is in trouble in Egypt and their sons Go down and buy us food from there, so that we may live and not die.” Ten of Joseph’s brothers went down to buy grain from Egypt. Jacob left Joseph’s brother Benjamin with him because he thought he might be in danger on the way. They arrived in Egypt and worshiped before Joseph he recognized them they did not recognize him and he spoke to them as if he knew them and said where did you come from.

We are not spies we are 12 sons of the same father we left only our last youngest brother Benjamin with our father in the land of Canaan and the one is not Joseph we just came to buy grain we are faithful not to spy. Joseph put them in prison for three days to search them. On the 3rd day I can’t believe you so throw one of your brothers here in prison I fear God so this of you so that your family doesn’t die go and get your brother who threw the youngest and come and that’s how your matter will be solved truthfully.

I threw Simon there and grain loaded and went in and told Jacob everything that the king of the land had spoken evil of us and that you were spies. Jacob was very sad that he was going to take Benjamin away from me while Joseph and Simon were alive. Reuben said to his father, I will not leave your son. I will give him back to you. If I do not do this, you will kill my son.

Genesis 43:1-34
Again the famine in the land was so severe that Jacob again ordered his sons to bring grain from Egypt but they told him that they could not return unless they took their son Benjamin. Judah said to his father, “I will be surety for Benjamin, and I will bring him back to you. If I do not, I will be held responsible.

Jacob(Israel) said then I am going to have a gift for the king to be kind to you and we will bring silver and this may have come by mistake so return it to him and hurry and take Benjamin and go back to the man. They got up quickly and went down to Egypt and stood before Joseph. When Joseph saw Benjamin, he said, “Come, take these men into the house and feed them with the slaughtered cattle.

The man brought them in and had them wash their feet. Later Joseph came and called them and said is your father still alive and asked him how he was and Benjamin looked at him and said this is your youngest and he went out and cried and washed his face again and encouraged himself and went upstairs and said serve food and they ate. Food was shared from Joseph’s table; but Benjamin’s portion was five times as much as any of their portions. So the men drank with Joseph and became warm.

Genesis 44:1-33
And Joseph commanded the chief of his household, saying, “Fill their sacks with grain, as much as they can carry; and you must put a silver coin in the mouth of each one. And put my cup, my silver cup, in the mouth of the youngest with his grain money.” And the man did as Joseph bade him.

They rose up early in the morning, and before they were gone out of the city, Joseph called the chief of his servants, and said, Go up after the men; and when you arrive, say to him; Why do you repay evil for good? Is not this the cup from which my lord drinks and by which he indeed divine? You have done evil in doing this.

The man reached out to them and told them and they were afraid and said, ‘Lord, why do you speak to us like this? Why then should we steal silver or gold from your lord’s house? if this man be found among us, let him bear, and we will be his servants.
The man said, “Let it be as you say. This will be my slave. Some of you will not go. At this they tore their clothes.

They all loaded their donkeys and returned to the city. And they fell down before Joseph, and he said unto them, What is this thing that ye do?
Judah said to Joseph, God has made clear the iniquity of your servants. How can we prove ourselves innocent? we are all your servants, and he with whom the cup is found. But Joseph said, I will not do this: only the man in whose hand the cup is found will be my slave. some of you said goodbye.

Judah said please don’t be afraid of your servant we came with Benjamin first because our father had killed us but he sent us to the garden to buy it for us 2nd but we said I don’t want to see you in the face. For your servant became a surety to my father for the boy’s safe return, saying,

‘My father, if I do not bring him back to you, then I shall bear the blame before my father all the days of my life. So what can I say let’s leave Benjamin and go in. Don’t let our father die when we lose Benjamin and don’t let me see the sorrow that comes to my father.

Genesis 45:1-28
And Joseph went out with a loud voice, and the Egyptians heard and it was heard among the court of Pharaoh. I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold into Egypt. And now do not regret that you sold me here and do not be angry with yourselves. Because he will be hungry in the country for five years God sent me before you to leave you offspring on earth and to save your lives by a great redemption.

Go quickly to my father and tell him all that I have, and take all that you have and your household and come down to me; and soon they said. For the five years of famine are yet to come, and I will nourish you in the land of Goshen; lest thou die, thou, and thy household, and all that thou hast.

Then he fell upon his brother Benjamin’s neck and wept; Benjamin hugged him crying. And Joseph kissed all his brothers and wept over them. Then his brothers spoke to him. and the fame thereof was heard in Pharaoh’s house, saying, Joseph’s brethren are come: and it pleased Pharaoh well, and his servants.

And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Behold, I have given you the best of the land of Egypt. You will eat the fat of the land. Do not be anxious about your possessions; for the best of all the land of Egypt is yours. And Joseph did so, and prepared the chariot for the mules, and gave them clothing, but gave to Benjamin three hundred shekels of silver, and five pieces of silver.

Jacob is shocked and confused and we cannot believe them. But when they told him all that Joseph had said to them, and when he saw the wagons that Joseph had sent to carry him, the soul of Jacob their father revived. Israel said, “It is enough! My son Joseph is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.”

Genesis 46:1-34
Israel took everything he had, 70 of his family, and set out for Egypt’s Goshen; and when he came to Beer-sheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father, the God of Isaac. God said to him in a vision at night, “Jacob! Jacob!” he said. he spoke to Israel.“Here I am,” he replied.

And God said, Thus saith the LORD; “I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt and I will make of thee there a great nation. Joseph got his chariot ready and went up to meet his father Israel in Goshen. He wrapped his arms around his neck as soon as it appeared before him and wept for a long time.

And Israel said unto Joseph, I will not regret it: for I have seen thy face, that thou art yet alive. Joseph said to them, “My brothers and my father’s household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me and he will let you dwell in the land of Goshen, for the shepherds are an abomination to the Egyptians.

Exodus 1:5-25
There were 70 people born to Jacob, but all of them died. And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty a new king of egypt who did not know joseph came after him and said to one of his people behold, the children of Israel are more and mightier than we come, and let us cut them off from the land.

Then they appointed a king who oppressed them and made them do hard labor. The king of Egypt added to the Hebrew midwives that if you see the Hebrew women giving birth, if it is a male, kill it and if it is a female, leave it alone.

The midwives told him that the king did not leave them because they feared God and they kept the males born alive. Again the king of Pharaoh commanded his people that all the newborn children of Israel should be taken out of the river and that women should live there.
